A ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday marked the opening of a new interchange in Springdale, and the end of the traffic-causing Don Tyson Interchange Project.
Drivers now have another avenue to access Arvest Ballpark and the surrounding area, and Sunset Avenue is likely to see some congestion relief.
NWAOnline reports that the ribbon-cutting ceremony had the bridge connecting the East and West sides of I-49 crowded with folks, on a clear, hot day, as cars honked below.
Doug Sprouse, Mayor of Springdale, said that the new interchange extends the Don Tyson Parkway to 56th Street.
As the last orange barrels blocking the asphalt were removed, an RV was the first to use the Northbound exit – making the interchange officially open for travel.
The project, the city’s fifth interchange, cost approximately $23 million.
