Arkansas Police Using License Plate Readers To Track Vehicles

Police across the United States and Arkansas are using automatic license plate readers to track millions of drivers.

These cameras are located on bridges and police cars to help law enforcement officials locate vehicles that have been stolen or involved in a crime.

According to a recent report by the American Civil Liberties Union, these license plate readers are also tracking the movements of vehicles which have not been involved in any time of crime, which is in violation of our the Fourth Amendment.

The American Civil Liberties Union is now pushing for stricter laws requiring police to abide by strict rules when collecting data with these license plate readers.

In 2013, the Arkansas legislature has passed a law which restricts the use of license place readers. This requires the data to be deleted after 150 days and statistical data to be deleted after six months.
