A rollover accident near Elkins this morning has sent a paint truck driver to the hospital with injuries.
The incident occurred on Arkansas 16, east of Fayetteville and mere yards from Elkins city limit, at about 10:30 a.m., when a tractor-trailer overturned in a single-vehicle wreck. Crews worked to extract the driver from the paint truck for about an hour, and he was treated at the rear of the truck behind a raised white sheet before being flown by helicopter to a local hospital. His condition has not been reported.
Part of the highway was closed due to the incident, which caused paint to leak from the vehicle into a nearby creek. Authorities dug a trench in order to contain the leak, and the state Department of Emergency Management was contacted.
