Oliver Law Firm Supports Local Trial Competition

Oliver Law Firm is making news again, this time for supporting a local student trial competition held over the weekend.

The 2014 William H. Sutton Barristers’ Union Trial Competition was held in the E.J. Ball Courtroom at the University of Arkansas School of Law as the final event after weeks of elimination rounds. The competitors faced a panel of judges which included the Honorable Kristine G. Baker, U.S. district judge for the Eastern District of Arkansas; the Honorable Susan O. Hickey, U.S. district judge for the Western District of Arkansas; the Honorable Kenneth S. Hixson, judge for the Arkansas Court of Appeals; and the Honorable Conner Eldridge, U.S. attorney for the Western District of Arkansas.

Over the course of the entire competition, the competitors presented their arguments to over 70 practicing attorneys acting as judges, and 44 volunteer witnesses and 40 volunteer timekeepers.

Third-year law students Brinkley Cook-Campbell of Mt. Judea and Britta Stamps of Fort Smith won the competition, while fellow third-year students Jordan Broyles and Chloe Fackler were the runners-up. Stamps was also selected as outstanding individual advocate.

At the opening of this weekend’s championship round, Sach Oliver presented his annual “How to Win the Trial Competition” speech to help the student competitors gather their thoughts before arguing.

Our firm is pleased to have been a part of this wonderful event and we congratulate all of this year’s winners wholeheartedly. We believe that helping to guide our future litigators is a rewarding and important task, one that we are proud to be a part of, thanks to events like the Union Trial Competition.

We send our appreciation to everyone who participated and best of luck to our 2014 winners!
