Lumbar Spine Car Wreck Injuries

When people think of osteoporosis, they usually think of breaking bones and aching joints, not severe back injuries. Many people are unaware of what exactly the lumbar spine is and why it is so important. Lumbar vertebrae are the 5 largest and strongest of all vertebrae in the spine and comprise the lower back. The strongest stabilizing muscles of the spine are attached to the lumbar vertebrae.

Lumbar spine provides both stability and support, allowing humans to walk upright. Any injury to the lumbar spine will alter the lumbar posture and your body will attempt to compensate for this and that tends to distort the curves of the thoracic and cervical spine.

Osteoporosis is underlying cause in many lumbar fractures, especially in postmenopausal women and may occur without apparent trauma. In elderly patients with acute osteoporotic fractures, pain and prolonged bed rest can lead to multiple secondary medical complications. Prevention for osteoporosis is key. Although there is no cure, there are steps that can be taken to prevent it. We represent clients who have experienced these types of injuries caused by car wrecks. Wrecks and backs don’t get along.
