I’ve often wondered what someone thinks they would accomplish by not telling the truth. Do you think you will avoid confrontation? Do you think the other person is stupid or incapable of knowing a lie when they hear it? Here are a few things for the habitual liar to ponder:
- If you always tell the truth, then you don’t have to remember what you have said about what and to whom.
- Build your character. You can earn a reputation as an honest person that someone can depend on.
- You will be a role model for others and inspire them to follow your example.
- By being honest, your stress level will lower resulting in an overall better feeling of wellness.
- When you look in the mirror you will actually like who is looking back. Honesty promotes pride and confidence.
- Integrity. You will be believable and persuasive.
- To attain any goal you need support and with honesty and trustworthiness you can accomplish anything.
The benefits of telling the truth are that in the long run others will respect and listen to you. In all honesty, everyone battles with the truth. For example, telling your wife her butt does not look big in that pair of pants or that you love your best friend’s new horrific hairstyle. Chances are that you would answer with an empathetic “no” even though the answer is truly “yes.” I believe that one would be an exception to the rule. It is never okay to hurt someone else on purpose.
In conclusion, just think about what you say one time before you let the words leave your lips.
