As Always, It Is an Inside Job

This morning I was reading something by M. Scott Peck that really seemed appropriate for this time of my life. Dr. Peck wrote, “The whole course of human history may depend on a change of heart in one solitary and even humble individual—for it is in the solitary mind and soul of the individual that the battle between good and evil is waged and ultimately won or lost.”

I have always admired Dr. Peck after reading The Road Less Traveled in the early eighties. But this morning, found his words very appropriate.

When we are pleased with our performance in a particular court case, the world seems in order, and predictable. But, conversely, after a misunderstanding in a personal or professional encounter, we perceive the world as menacing and dangerous.

If we are firmly planted in our own self-understanding and self-awareness, we do not bend to the opinion of others. We do not let others control our life. Simply stated it is the power of positive thinking that controls our life. If we think we can do it, we are right, and if we think we cannot do it, we are right. It is always an inside job.
