Religious Discrimination

Don't Tolerate Religious Discrimination

Experienced Attorney Serving Clients in Eastern Pennsylvania

Employees cannot be discriminated against or harassed because of their religious beliefs — or lack thereof. Employers must make reasonable efforts to accommodate religious beliefs and practices in the workplace and may not impose religious views onto you. When religious discrimination does occur, it is possible to hold the employer accountable for any damages that happened as a result.

At the Oliver Law Firm, attorney Ken Oliver aggressively pursues damages for victims of religious discrimination in the workplace. The firm also represents the victims of other forms of discrimination, including those that are based on race, national origin, gender, or age. There are remedies that are available to religious discrimination victims, and the Oliver Law Firm can help you understand your best options.

Your employer is not allowed to retaliate against you in any way if you bring a claim or threaten to bring a claim of religious discrimination. This retaliation also violates the law and adds to the damage caused by the original act. Contact the Oliver Law Firm to learn more.

Although everyone should be allowed to have and practice their religious beliefs, the law prohibits individuals and employers from imposing those religious beliefs on other people in the workplace. Even when the right to assemble, engage in certain practices or wear certain clothing in the workplace is provided, there can be no requirement for others to participate. This is also a form of religious discrimination.

Accommodating Religious Practices in the Workplace

Employers must make reasonable efforts to accommodate the religious practices of their employees. This means allowing certain types of clothing in the workplace, such as hijabs, robes and other religious wear; providing time and space to engage in prayers or other religious practices; and allowing the reasonable expression of those beliefs.

Employers do not have to accommodate religious practices, however, if it would be prohibitively expensive to do so, if the practice would interfere with business operations or create a safety hazard, or if it infringes upon the rights of other employees. For instance, if a factory worker who deals with heavy machinery wishes to wear a long robe that could pose a safety concern, the employer has the right to prohibit the robe from being worn.
